Indian Super League is the most loved football tournament in across the globe. The domestic soccer league of India is not only famous in Asia but also equally popular in foreign countries. In first three seasons of ISL, eight teams participated and played series of matches with each other. In the fourth edition of this globally illustrious soccer tournament, two new teams have been introduced. Representing Jharkhand and Karnataka, new entrant Jamshedpur FC and Bengaluru City FC will make their debut in this football tournament.
Performing well in series of games, Atletico de Kolkata won the first season of Hero ISL. Kolkata’s FC once again became the champions in third edition of ISL. 2nd season of the league was won by Chenaiyin FC. All other teams, which took hard efforts to win the title, include FC Goa, Mumbai City FC, FC Pune City, Kerala Blasters, NorthEast United FC and Delhi Dynamos. It will be quite interesting watch the performances of these teams in fourth edition as the teams have signed in some new Indian and overseas players.
Near about 60 to 70 matches are played in the series of Hero ISL. Calculating the number of victories, losses and the matches drawn due to equal goals scored by the two teams, points are awarded to the FCs in the standings. Teams with maximum number of points attains highest position in the points table whereas the team acquiring minimum points is declined to the bottom place in the same chart. Top teams are qualified for the semi final matches. Each team plays two semi final matches. Average performance of the teams is taken into consideration while deciding which teams will confront in the final game.
The semi final matches are classified as ‘Leg1’ and ‘Leg2’. The system has been introduced for concluding the results when two teams score equal goals and points in final stage of the league. By analysing the performance of four teams in these semis, it is concluded which teams are going to battle in the final match. Gap of one or more than one day is there in these matches for the players of top four FCs to prepare themselves for the significant phase of the soccer tournament. Audiences gather in huge numbers in the stadium where the final match is played.
Every year, the league commences with a lavish opening ceremony. Top celebrities and sportsmen are invited for the event. With the spectacular dance performances of celebs and interactions of sportsmen with the public gathering enhances the glory of aura. With the enthusiastic public audiences, the entire environment in the stadium becomes energetic and exciting. Presence of gorgeous actresses and actors adds more charm into such atmosphere. Mumbai City FC boosted its performance in the third edition of Indian Super League. Winning six matches, the team earned 23 points and grabbed the first place in standings. With one point less than that of the topper, Kerala Blasters bagged 2nd rank in the same chart. Though Kerala’s team also won 6 games, it lost one match more than that of Mumbai’s FC. Delhi Dynamos earned 21 points from five victories. Atletico de Kolkata somehow managed to grab the fourth position in points table by winning four matches. Although NorthEast United FC won more matches than ATK, it lost four games more than that of Kolkata’s team.
Similar situation was faced by Pune City FC and FC Goa, who registered victories in equal number of matches. Pune’s team clinched seventh place in the chart while Goa’s FC remained at the bottom position. ISL 2015 champions – Chennaiyin FC lost five games and earned 15 points from three victories. Two champions teams confronted in the final game for their second title and Atletico de Kolkata succeeded in created new record by becoming the champions for two times. ATK is the only team to lift the title twice. The final match was played on 18 December at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, which located in Kochi.

Winning seven matches, FC Goa bagged top rank in ISl season 2 point table. Followed by Chennaiyin FC at third place, Atletico de Kolkata also grabbed victories in 7 games. But the team faced defeats in four matches and earned 23 points. In similar case, Chennai’s FC remained at the third place as it lost six matches while Kolkata’s team faced defeats in just two. Earning 22 points, Delhi Dynamos jumped to fourth place. The team registered victories in six matches and lost 4 games throughout the series. NorthEast United too clinched wins in 6 games, but it also faced defeats in six matches. By earning 20 points, NEUFC settled at fifth place in the standings.
Mumbai City and and FC Pune City won equal number of matches. Their ranks differed in the table as Mumbai’s team lost one match less than that of Pune’s FC. This major variation brought changes in their rankings. Earning 16 points, Mumbai City FC hold 6th rank in the standings while FC Pune City minted 15 points to grasp the seventh position in same chart. Kerala Blasters FC performed poorly in the 2nd edition of Hero ISL. Winning just three matches in the league, Kerala’s FC declined bottom place in the score table. FC Goa and Chennai’s team confronted in the final game of ISL 2015. Defeating Goa’s team, Chennaiyin FC won the title for the first time. The match was played on 20 December 2015 at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa.

Showcasing an astonishing performance in the opening season of ISL, Chennaiyin FC clinched first rank in the points table. The team won 6 matches and faced defeats in three matches. Chennai’s football team earned 23 points from six victories. Loosing 4 matches and winning six games, FC Goa earned 22 points and bagged 2nd position in the standings. Atletico de Kolkata and Kerala Blasters had equal score in the table. Though those teams earned 19 points each, Kolkata’s team successfully acquired the 3rd place as it performed comparatively better than Kerala’s team. Although had 5 victories, Kerala Blasters FC ended its ISL journey pocketing 4th rank in standings.
Delhi Dynamos registered victories in four matches and lost same number of matches. Delhi’s FC earned 18 points and achieved fifth position in the score table. FC Pune City garnered 16 points from 4 victories and faced defeats in similar number of games. The team grabbed sixth rank in point table. Mumbai City FC also earned 16 points, but its poor performance pushed its rank to the 7th position. NorthEast United FC won only three matches and earned 15 points. Minting lowest numbers in the chart, NEUFC remained at the bottom position. Defeating Kerala Blasters in the final match, Atletico de Kolkata lifted its first title in the history of ISL. The game was played at DY Patil Stadium on 20 December 2014.
